Trace Adkins is truly a gift to country music – he can transcend all sectors of the genre, infusing a party with one song or invoking a sexy night at home with another. However it has always been his sentimental hits, such as “Just Fishin'” or “You’re Gonna Miss This” that have become pillars of his catalog. Until now.

Perhaps the most captivating of his career, Adkins has released the incredibly nostalgic “Watered Down,” the new single from his upcoming album Something’s Going On.

Written by Matt Jenkins, Trevor Rosen and Shane McAnally, “Watered Down” is the reflection of a universal actuality – we either have (or will) eventually ‘slow down.’ This beautifully simplistic truth highlights the realities of progressing through life. And although some may dread aging, Adkins takes a novel approach, humbly emphasizing that it’s not over, just a bit less raucous.

“When I heard this song, I was like, ‘Well, that’s my current state in a nutshell,” Adkins told a crowd of industry personnel during a listening party at the new WME offices in Nashville, TN. “That’s where I’m at. A man that’s lived his life like I have, at some point you face the reality that you have to temper your vices. You have to calm down. I’m still crazy – you’ve just got to temper it a little bit.”

His first album since 2013, fans will be eager to grab Something’s Going On on March 31, released via BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records. In the meantime, he can be seen co-hosting NBC’s TODAY on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
