Alabama native Walker Hayes is bringing his unique approach to country music with his single “You Broke Up With Me”. This isn’t Hayes’ first go around with country music; several years ago, he released two singles that didn’t go far on the charts, forcing him to take a job at Costco. Fast forward a few years and it looks like country music fans are ready for what Hayes has to offer.
“You Broke Up With Me” is forthright and direct: you’ve been dumped and making the most out of the situation by living your life. Having fun with your friends, not feeling sorry for yourself, and going about your business since she left you. All is well until she realizes you’re no longer present and starts anguishing over her decision. Hayes is quick to remind her that she broke up with him, and her decision is belated. He’s not all ears to her sob story or about to have his good time abolished by her:
Darlin’ you can’t crash my party with your ‘Sorry’s and ‘What Are We’s’
Don’t start rainin’ on my Mardi Gras parade for a minute
I ain’t even fixin’ to listen to your guilt trippin’
You’re forgettin’ girl you made your bed and didn’t want me in it
“You Broke Up With Me” promptly catches your attention with not just the catchy beat, but the uncommon sounds that make up the track. Your ears are not playing games on you, Hayes does the beat-boxing, clapping, and whistling you hear on the song. “You Broke Up With Me” has a wonderful rhythmic flow that gets you bouncing along from the start. Hayes is able to mix up music styles and produce a refreshing and smooth artistic sound that fans can’t get enough of.
Catching Hayes live is a one of a kind experience as you are able to witness how he assembles his songs. Check out upcoming tour dates on his website www.walkerhayes.com.
