Native of Portland, TN, upcoming country pop singer-songwriter Mattie Taylor has already begun the lay the groundwork for her journey into country music. She’s already performed at CMA Fest, shared the stage with Country icon Linda Davis, and released seven – yes seven! – solo written singles, including “Living For It” in 2021. Today she’s putting down another brick in that groundwork with the video for her latest single “I Should Go” exclusively premiering with The Country Note.
“I wrote “I Should Go” about the confusing phase of a relationship when the other person starts acting distant, and you know it’s close to an end. It’s about realizing it’s time to go,” explains Taylor. “I think the target audience is teenagers dealing with their first heartbreak and young people who are figuring out themselves, and what they want in a relationship.”
In the music video, Taylor brings a visual to that sense of confusion through metaphor: she’s physically stuck in a car and its her strength that will help her break through. “In this video, sitting in the car symbolizes feeling stuck in an emotional state looking out the window into a field that symbolizes a sea of possibility and freedom. Taylor suddenly emerges from the car, breaking free from the emotional confines pacing around the car with inner turmoil that often comes with making life changing decisions. The video captures a symbolic transition from emotional confinement (the car) to liberation and self-realization (the field), mirroring the act of leaving a relationship or overcoming an emotional challenge.”
